Payers or Freeloaders?
Mikael Sorvanto
A municipal election candidate from the National Coalition Party
Do you want your hometown to be growing, developing, and economically sustainable? I believe so. To achieve this in Finland today, both domestic migration and international immigration to your municipality are needed. However, it is essential to find the best among these newcomers.
The population of Espoo grew unexpectedly much last year, which is positive in itself. Espoo is an attractive city for both Finns and foreigners. This has been touted almost as a messianic solution to all of Espoo’s problems. However, the problem is that more and more people moving to Espoo do not contribute any added value to the city’s residents. This includes, for instance, university students who from the outset do not plan to stay in Espoo after graduation or people who move to Espoo to benefit from the excellent and nearby services but are unwilling to contribute to their funding.
I therefore believe that we should focus on the quality of those moving to Espoo rather than the quantity. There are three important reasons for this:
Espoo must change course before it’s too late!
We need to make our municipality attractive to experts through reasonable taxation, zoning for single-family homes, and appealing leisure opportunities.
How can you help?
Don’t worry or lose hope—there is, in fact, a surprisingly simple solution. What is it? Vote for a reasonable candidate from the National Coalition Party in the upcoming municipal elections! Last time, over 46,000 Espoo residents trusted us. The threatening plans from the Greens and the Left to turn Espoo into a declining municipality must be stopped. So, make sure to cast your vote during the advance voting period from April 2–8, 2025, or on the election day, April 13, 2025!
